The PMDD Lab

We get it: reading Terms of Use isn't exactly thrilling, and it's tempting to skip past them. But it's important to set clear expectations for what you can expect from us while using The PMDD Lab, and what we expect from you in return. Thank you for your attention.

1. General

1.1 These Terms of Use (the "Terms") govern the use of The PMDD Lab mobile application (the "App"), provided by Bloomful Planners, a Finnish sole trader, business ID 3485996-4, Sarvijaakonkatu 16 A 9, 33540 Tampere, Finland ("Bloomful", "we", "us").

1.2 The App shows these Terms before you start using it and before you buy a subscription. By using the App, you agree to them. How we process personal data is described in our Privacy Policy.

2. The App

2.1 The App is a self-tracking tool based on Bloomful's workbook The PMDD Lab. It allows you to record your wellbeing across the menstrual cycle, carry out habit experiments and review your own observations.

2.2 Bloomful may change, add or remove features of the App for valid reasons, such as legal requirements, security, technical changes, or improving the App. Such changes will not lock you out of the logs you have recorded: your daily logs and tracker remain available to you, and all of your data can be exported from the App at any time. If a change makes The Lab significantly worse for you, we will tell you in the App at least 30 days in advance, and you may cancel your subscription; your statutory rights, including any right to a refund for unused prepaid time, are not affected.

3. Medical and health disclaimers

3.1 For educational and informational purposes only. The content, tools, prompts, predictions and tracking methods in the App are intended for educational, informational and self-directed tracking purposes only. The App is not a medical device. It does not provide, and must not be interpreted as, medical advice, psychological counseling, diagnosis, treatment, or a cure for any disease or condition, including but not limited to Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS), Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) and Premenstrual Exacerbation (PME). Cycle and symptom-window predictions are estimates.

3.2 Peer-authored; not medical professionals. The App and its content were created by a peer, based on personal experience and independent research on PMDD. Bloomful and the people who created the App are not licensed medical doctors, psychiatrists, psychologists or registered healthcare professionals, and the App has not been medically reviewed. Using the App does not create a doctor-patient, therapist-client or any other professional healthcare relationship.

3.3 Consult your healthcare provider. The App encourages self-directed tracking and gentle lifestyle experiments. Always consult a qualified healthcare provider before making significant changes, such as starting new supplements, trying restrictive diets or beginning rigorous exercise routines. The App lets you log medications, but it is not designed for experimenting with them: medications cannot be the subject of an experiment in the App. Do not start, change or stop taking prescribed medication without consulting your prescribing physician. Never disregard professional medical advice or delay seeking treatment because of something you have read or tracked in the App.

3.4 Supplements and local laws. The App mentions certain dietary supplements, vitamins and botanicals (for example vitamin B6, chasteberry, saffron and evening primrose oil) as examples of habits that can be tracked. Bloomful does not endorse, prescribe or sell any supplements. The legal status, availability, acceptable dosages and regulatory classification of these substances vary by country and may change over time. It is your sole responsibility to ensure that any supplement you choose to use is legal and approved in your jurisdiction, and to follow the advice of your licensed healthcare provider on its safety, contraindications and dosage.

3.5 Mental health emergencies. PMDD and PME can involve severe mental health symptoms, including severe depression and suicidal thoughts. The App is not a crisis service. If you are experiencing a mental health emergency, thoughts of self-harm, or feel you are a danger to yourself or others, contact your local emergency services or a crisis helpline now, or go to the nearest emergency room. Crisis lines are listed in the App under Settings › Support now.

3.6 No guarantees; assumption of risk. Every person's biology, neurochemistry and medical history are unique. Bloomful makes no representations, warranties or guarantees that the methods, habits or tools in the App will improve your symptoms or produce any particular result. You use the App and make any lifestyle changes voluntarily, at your own discretion, and you accept the risks associated with using the information it contains.

4. Eligibility

The App is intended only for persons aged 18 or over. By using the App, you confirm that you are at least 18 years old.

5. Free features and The Lab

5.1 The App includes features available free of charge and a paid membership, The Lab. The features included in each are described in the App.

5.2 Your daily logs, the tracker and the results of your experiments remain available to you whether or not you have an active membership. Content you create with Lab tools (such as letters and Reality Check) is kept and included in your export, but can be opened in the App only while you are a member.

6. Subscriptions

6.1 The Lab is offered as a monthly or yearly subscription purchased through the Apple App Store or Google Play (the "Store"). Payment is processed by the Store under its terms.

6.2 The yearly subscription may include a free trial period for new subscribers. Unless cancelled before the end of the trial period, the subscription continues as a paid subscription.

6.3 Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each subscription period, unless you cancel before the renewal date. On the Apple App Store, automatic renewal must be turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.

6.4 You can manage and cancel your subscription in your Store account settings. On cancellation, access to The Lab continues until the end of the current paid period.

6.5 Refunds are handled by the Store in accordance with its policies. Nothing in these Terms limits your rights under mandatory consumer protection law.

6.6 Price changes are communicated by the Store before they apply to you, and you can cancel before the new price applies.

6.7 If you are a consumer in the European Union, you may have a statutory 14-day right of withdrawal for a new subscription. Withdrawal and refund requests are handled by the Store.

7. AI readings

7.1 AI readings are generated automatically by an artificial intelligence model, based on a summary of your records, and only when you ask for one. The summary is passed through OpenRouter to the AI model provider named in our Privacy Policy. Readings are marked in the App as written by AI.

7.2 AI readings are offered for self-reflection only. They describe patterns in your own records, and a pattern does not show that one thing causes another. AI readings may be inaccurate, incomplete or unsuitable for your situation.

7.3 AI readings are not medical advice and must never be used in place of consulting a doctor or other qualified healthcare professional. Do not make decisions about your health, medication or treatment based on an AI reading. How you interpret and use an AI reading is at your own discretion and risk.

7.4 AI readings are not monitored by a person in real time and are not a crisis service. If a reading, or anything else, leaves you distressed, please reach out to someone you trust or to the crisis resources in the App.

7.5 The number of AI readings is limited as described in the App, and the service may at times be unavailable.

8. Third-party links and external resources

8.1 The App contains links and references to third-party websites, research articles, healthcare organizations, crisis lines (for example findahelpline.com) and peer-support communities (for example Reddit). These are provided for convenience and information only. Bloomful does not own, control or monitor them and is not responsible for their content, accuracy, availability or privacy practices.

8.2 We choose links with care: mainly published research, recognized health and crisis organizations, and established peer-support communities. Even so, including a link does not mean that Bloomful endorses the medical claims, products, services or opinions found there. Posts by other users in peer-support communities are not checked by us; Bloomful is not responsible for advice, interactions or distress you may experience there.

8.3 You use third-party links at your own risk. Please review the privacy policies and terms of any external website before sharing personal information or relying on its content.

9. Your data and backups

9.1 The information you record in the App belongs to you. It is stored on your device, and in any backup or export you make. Apart from the AI reading summary described in our Privacy Policy, it is not sent to Bloomful. Bloomful does not hold a copy and cannot recover it.

9.2 You are responsible for keeping backups of your data, for example with the App's export or your device's own backup. Bloomful is not liable for data that is lost because a device is lost, broken, reset or replaced, because the App is deleted, or because of technical problems on your device, except where the loss is caused by a defect in the App.

10. Intellectual property

The App and its content, including texts, workbook material, designs and images, are the property of Bloomful or its licensors and are protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. You are granted a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the App for personal, non-commercial purposes. You may not copy, reproduce, distribute, sell, modify, reverse-engineer or create derivative works from the App or its content, except as permitted by law.

11. Acceptable use

You may not misuse the App, including by attempting to get around the limits on AI readings, interfering with Bloomful's servers, or using the App in breach of applicable law.

12. Limitation of liability

12.1 The App is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. Bloomful does not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted or error-free.

12.2 Bloomful is not liable for decisions you make yourself based on information in the App, including lifestyle changes and changes to your habits, or for indirect or consequential damages, except where caused by a defect in the App or by our negligence.

12.3 Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or any other liability that cannot be limited or excluded under applicable law, or your statutory rights as a consumer.

13. Your responsibility

You are responsible under applicable law for damage you cause by breaching these Terms.

14. Changes to these Terms

Bloomful may amend these Terms for valid reasons, such as changes in the law or in the App. The effective date above shows when they were last changed. You will be informed in the App at least 30 days before material changes take effect. If you do not accept the amended Terms, you may stop using the App and cancel your subscription before they take effect.

15. Governing law and disputes

15.1 These Terms are governed by the laws of Finland. If you are a consumer living in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you also benefit from the mandatory consumer protection provisions of the law of your country of residence.

15.2 If something goes wrong, please contact us first at hello@bloomfuljournals.com. A consumer may also refer a dispute to the Finnish Consumer Disputes Board (www.kuluttajariita.fi) or to a competent court. Consumers living elsewhere in the EU can get help from the European Consumer Centre in their country (in Finland: ECC Finland, www.kuluttajaneuvonta.fi/ecc).

16. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid, illegal or unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force and effect.

17. Apple App Store users

If you downloaded the App from the Apple App Store, the following also applies:

17.1 These Terms are between you and Bloomful only, not Apple. Bloomful, not Apple, is solely responsible for the App and its content.

17.2 Your licence to use the App is limited to Apple-branded devices that you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules in Apple's Media Services Terms and Conditions.

17.3 Apple has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support for the App.

17.4 If the App fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price, if any, to the extent the law allows. Apple has no other warranty obligation with respect to the App. Any other claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs or expenses attributable to any failure to conform to a warranty are Bloomful's responsibility, to the extent the law requires.

17.5 Bloomful, not Apple, is responsible for addressing any claims by you or any third party relating to the App or your possession and use of it, including product liability claims, claims that the App fails to conform to legal or regulatory requirements, and claims arising under consumer protection, privacy or similar laws.

17.6 If a third party claims that the App or your possession and use of it infringes that third party's intellectual property rights, Bloomful, not Apple, is solely responsible for the investigation, defence, settlement and discharge of that claim.

17.7 You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated by the U.S. Government as a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not listed on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.

17.8 Questions, complaints or claims about the App can be sent to Bloomful at the contact details in section 18.

17.9 Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms, and once you accept them, Apple has the right to enforce them against you as a third-party beneficiary.
